Every photographer captures images from their own perspective and imparts their
own vision into their work. One of my goals is to show the wonders of the Niagara region to the world through photography. There is so much more to this area than the falls themselves. Thousands of people visit the
falls every year and never take advantage of the surrounding area because it is generally not marketed. Much of this area is natural and therefore suits a certainn type of tourist. The Niagara River
Gorge offers miles of hiking and breathtaking scenery. Lewiston, Youngstown, Fort Niagara, Lake Ontario, Niagara-on-the-Lake all offer wonderful opportunities for
photography and relaxation. If you get a chance to visit here, you should set aside a day to walk along the Niagara Gorge trail. There is nowhere else in the world like this.
Photography has been a major interest for me for
over 18 years. As an artist, I am driven to portray images of the world as I see it. Whether it is steeples in Florence, or the eerie light filtering through the forests of the Niagara River Gorge, I am
fascinated with the ability to interpret the world through photography. The same scene can look very different by varying the composition, lighting, time of day or the season. Each image will have
a different mood. Last year I decided to turn my interest into a profession. The result is that I am now able to concentrate more effort on creating photographs.
A regular photo trek involves heading out on a hike with a backpack,
specifically designed to carry photographic equipment. Typically, I carry 40-50 pounds of equipment if I am travelling "heavy". The photo on the right was taken in January of 1999 and shows what winter
photography can be like in western NY state. The falling snow makes it very difficult to get great pictures because it gets all over everything. If you are interested in the equipment I use, take a look at the equipment section of my site.
I have traveled extensively in Europe and found it to be a great experience.
Much of the architecture and scenery offers terrific photographic opportunities. Because there is generally more architectural history in Europe, there is a wide variety of scenery, resulting in unlimited possibilities for architectural and landscape photography. Small, medieval
villages, castle ruins, and large opulent cities, all make wonderful material for artistic photographs.
